Offer description

Are you passionate about shaping the future of students and creating a positive impact in the school community? Would you thrive in a setting where the outback meets community spirit? As a Creative Arts Specialist, you'll teach, inspire, coordinate, organise and manage learning through music, visual arts or drama for students between Kindi to Year 8.

A school in Meekatharra, located 750 kilometres north of Perth, is seeking a Creative Arts Specialist from Term 4, 2025 for either a term, or into 2026. Situated in the heart of the Midwest, the school serves a diverse local population of 700 people and 1,000 across the district. With an enrolment of approximately 150 students from Kindergarten to Year 12, over 90% of the student body identifies as Aboriginal. The school also offers the vibrant KindiLink program for preschool-aged children.

The Creative Arts Specialist position is open to educators with a background in any of the arts disciplines, including Music, Visual Arts, or Drama. The school is seeking a passionate and dynamic teacher who can engage students across year levels through creative, inclusive, and stimulating arts programs. This position offers the flexibility to shape a creative curriculum based on the specialist's strengths - whether your expertise lies in developing musical ability, fostering artistic expression through visual media, or building confidence and collaboration through drama. You will have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the school's culture, promote student creativity and self-expression.

Many students come from the Ngoonooru Wajarri and Yugunga-Nya family groups and students have the unique opportunity to learn the Wajarri language with expert teachers. Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEOs) play a vital role in supporting the learning community, providing cultural guidance, and maintaining strong connections between the school and the local community. The school places significant emphasis on literacy and numeracy, student well-being, attendance, and early intervention. The school is part of the MultiLit - Closing the Gap program to support strong literacy foundations for early years children. The school has high expectations to become lifelong learners, showing respect for culture themselves and others and striving for a strong future.

Meekatharra offers an array of activities and amenities: local clubs, volunteer opportunities, after-work events, and recreational resources. The town is equipped with a hospital, GP clinic, mental health services, pharmacy, and various visiting services, including dental, physio, and optometry. Engaging with local events and groups is a great way to make new connections and settle into your new outback home. Enjoy nature trails, gorges, and local camping and prospecting opportunities. Explore nearby ghost towns, meteor impact sites, Aboriginal rock art, and a range of activities within a day's drive.

This is a full-time position, available for Term 4 or into 2026. There is a strong possibility of permanency. There is also a Year 5/6 Teacher and a Relief Teacher position available.
