About the Role

The Cancer Support Officer provides culturally safe, practical support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their families navigating the cancer care journey. The role focuses on coordinating care, improving access to cancer and support services, and enhancing health outcomes across the Eyre Peninsula and Far West Coast as part of the Improving First Nations Cancer Outcomes Program.

Key responsibilities include:

* Provide day-to-day coordination of care and practical assistance for clients and their families.
* Strengthen culturally safe referral pathways and partnerships between community and health services.
* Support cancer awareness and education initiatives in partnership with the Health Promotion Officer.
* Contribute to regional planning, data collection, and continuous improvement of cancer services.
* Document lived experiences, barriers, and enablers to inform system improvement.

This role requires someone who is proactive, culturally responsive, and deeply aligned with our mission to support First Nations health outcomes.

About You

To thrive in this position, we are looking for candidates who can meet the following criteria:

* Qualification and/or experience in a health-related field such as nursing, counselling, or social work (oncology experience highly regarded).
* Relevant experience in community services, health promotion, education, or the not-for-profit sector, ideally within Aboriginal community health or social support settings.
* Skills in project coordination, administration, and data evaluation, including the preparation of reports and corporate documents.
* Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse stakeholders.
* Strong computer literacy and record-keeping skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office 365.
* Work rights in Australia without sponsorship requirements for the duration of the role.
