About Us

Apunipima Cape York Health Council is a community controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health service, which provides culturally appropriate, family centred, primary health care services to the communities and people of Cape York.

About the role

The Male Transition Program Worker will work with the Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) team to deliver the Cultural Connections support program to clients in the Lotus Glen Correctional Centre re-integrating into the community of Aurukun upon release.

There is a genuine occupational requirement under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), for this position to be filled by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander male person. The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants to ensure that cultural protocols and customs are met.

About You

To be successful in this role you must have:

* Minimum 1 year experience in the delivery of social and emotional wellbeing programs utilising a strengths-based approach to service delivery
* Demonstrated ability to support individuals to actively participate in programs encouraging ownership and a sense of pride in participation
* Demonstrated experience and ability to develop and implement programs and activities to meet individual needs with an understanding of cultural protocols and procedures when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
* Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to address overall holistic health encompassing physical, cultural, spiritual and social and emotional wellbeing of individuals, families and community environments
* Knowledge of current relevant legislation, policies and procedures, and demonstrated ability to contribute to the effective delivery of SEWB programs in challenging environments
* Excellent communication skills (both written and oral), and the ability to work collaboratively with local service providers.
* Ability to develop, implement and monitor program activities relevant to identified client needs, including individuals and groups
* Understanding of the historical and contemporary issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their communities, particularly in Cape York
* Must be willing and have the ability to travel in Cape York either by light aircraft or 4WD as required

Mandatory Requirements:

* Certificate III in Community Services or Alcohol and other Drugs or Addictions Management
* Australian National Police Check
* Current Queensland Drivers Licence
* Current Blue Card positive notice or exemption, or willing and able to obtain prior to commencement
