Senior Data Engineer Opportunity
Join our client's team, a government agency at the forefront of digital transformation, as a Senior Data Engineer. This role is pivotal in preparing and optimizing data for analytical and operational needs, contributing to enhanced service delivery and insightful analytics solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, business analysts, and cloud architects to develop integrated solutions using Microsoft Azure tools.
Develop and maintain ETL pipelines that ensure secure and efficient data transfer, adhering to best practices.
Design robust data models, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and availability while optimizing for performance.
Guarantee data quality and security throughout the data lifecycle.
Document data architectures, workflows, and integrations, including technical specifications and operational procedures.
Troubleshoot issues and collaborate on effective solutions to prevent recurrence.
Participate actively in agile ceremonies, code reviews and performance tuning activities.
Continuously update knowledge on emerging technologies and leverage new insights to improve integration processes.
Technical Proficiency
To excel in this role, candidates should have proven experience in data engineering, specifically with data integration, ETL processes, and data modeling. A solid grasp of data governance, security, and compliance is essential.
Essential Skills
Advanced SQL proficiency with the capacity to write complex queries and optimize scripts.
Experience with Azure cloud services, especially Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Machine Learning.
Ability to manage and deliver results within tight timelines and competing priorities.
Effective communication and influence skills to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
Strong problem-solving capabilities in a team-oriented environment.
Desirable Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
Experience with DevOps practices in Azure, along with relevant certifications.
Familiarity with RESTful API design and agile methodologies.
This role offers a maximum 40 hours per week, with onsite work in Canberra. Candidates will also benefit from flexible working arrangements, combining onsite and remote work.

Contract Details
The initial contract duration is for 12 months, with a possible 12-month extension based on performance. Ideal candidates must also be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
