Veterinary Nurse - Humpty Doo, Northern Territory
The Practice
Northern Territory Veterinary Services has expanded into Humpty Doo Veterinary Hospital (joining our established Katherine and Alice Springs clinics) and we are now seeking a motivated and enthusiastic veterinary nurse to join our growing team.
Humpty Doo Vet Hospital is a busy small animal practice, with planned expansion into equine and remote community work in the coming year. The clinic is currently staffed by a team of 3 vets, 3 nurses, and kennel hands. We handle a varied caseload including dogs, cats, native wildlife and exotic pets, and are fully equipped with modern diagnostic and surgical equipment.
The practice is fully air-conditioned, purpose-built, and includes two consult rooms, a spacious surgical theatre, and a large prep/treatment areas. Equipment includes:
* Digital x-ray, endoscopes
* In-house IDEXX lab machines including coags
* Fluid pumps, pulse ox, ECG and BP monitors
* Digital dental x-ray, iM3 dental machine
* Advanced Orthopaedic equipment (including TPLO and Stryker drills)
* Fully computerised with Rx Works
We also operate Aboriginal Community Veterinary Services, providing services to remote indigenous communities throughout the whole NT. Visits last for 1 to 14 days, averaging 5 days duration and are often to spectacular and otherwise inaccessible areas.
The position involves all aspects of animal care and vet nursing including feeding, medical care of patients, cleaning, surgical nursing, inventory management, reception duties and visits accompanying vets to remote towns, stations and communities.
The Location
Humpty Doo is a lively township just outside Darwin in the tropical Top End. It combines the freedom of rural living with access to the city and airport. Darwin offers shops, cafes, schools, sporting facilities, and a multicultural food and festival scene. Weekends can include:
* Watching the world-famous jumping crocodiles on the Adelaide River
* Exploring Kakadu, Litchfield and Nitmiluk National Parks
* Fishing and boating in pristine rivers and coastline
* Camping, hiking, and immersing yourself in the NT's wildlife and culture
Selection Criteria
* Some experience in vet nursing
* Good written and verbal communications skills
* Proven ability to work in a team and independently
* Basic ability with computers and common software
Selection Criteria - Highly Desirable
* Unrestricted drivers licence and experience with 4WD
* 2 years + experience vet nursing in small animal/mixed practice
* Qualifications in vet nursing
* Experience with Rx Works
* Proven ability to teach and supervise less experienced staff
* Proven experience as a team leader
* Stock management experience
