The Opportunity
We’re scaling our Product & Engineering organisation and expanding our Sydney hub, and we’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer with deep React expertise who wants to build, ship, and shape a global SaaS product used and loved by leading law firms around the world.
This role is perfect for someone who’s happiest close to users and UI. You’ll spend most of your time in React/TypeScript, but you’ll also work across backend services as needed to deliver an end-to-end solution. You’ll work in a cross-functional squad, pair closely with Product & Design, and help shape Nexl’s frontend architecture and engineering practices as we grow.
We’re looking for engineers who bring strong technical depth, product instincts, and a high level of ownership — people who raise the bar, use AI to accelerate their workflow, and balance autonomy with collaboration.
What You’ll Own & Do:
* Build high-quality interfaces using React + TypeScript
* Deliver full-stack features, with backend support in Rails + Python
* Work closely with Product & Design to design simple, elegant solutions
* Improve frontend performance, maintainability, and consistency
* Contribute to frontend architecture, components, and design system tooling
* Investigate and fix issues across the stack (frontend first)
* Use AI tools to accelerate coding, testing, and documentation
* Mentor and support other engineers
* Influence frontend standards, patterns, and long-term direction
What We’re Looking For:
Must haves:
* Strong experience building React/TypeScript applications
* Comfort working full-stack, especially with Ruby on Rails
* Good instincts around UX and UI quality
* Experience shipping in SaaS or fast-moving environments
* Strong debugging, testing, and performance awareness
* Ability to take ownership, operate autonomously, and drive outcomesComfortable designing solutions for ambiguous or complex problems
* Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering, product, and design
* Understands security best practices and writes secure code (authentication, authorization, data protection)
* Focus on performance and observability, can debug production issues and implement monitoring/alerting
* Growth mindset and a desire to continually raise the bar
* Fluency using AI tools as part of day-to-day engineering workflows
Nice to haves:
* Experience in multi-tenant, data-heavy applications
* Experience with GraphQL, gRPC, or real-time communication protocols (WebSockets)
* Exposure to AI/LLM application development
* Experience working in cross-functional squads
* Exposure to React Native or Python
* Familiarity with Marketing Tech, CRM-like systems, or workflow automation products
* Experience in LegalTech or Professional Services tech
* Knowledge of DevOps practices, Infrastructure as Code or cloud infrastructure (AWS or Azure)
* Experience mentoring engineers or influencing engineering culture
* Experience in early-stage or scale-up environments
