Pathology Queensland are looking for Laboratory Technician, Toxicology to join their team. In this role you will be involved in the analysis of biological specimens for drugs, alcohol and poisons for the State Coroner and the Qld Police Service. This is done to confirm or eliminate the possibility that these substances may have contributed to an accident or death, impairment of behaviour or a criminal offence.
What you'll do
- Participate in the provision of an integrated, comprehensive, cost-effective and quality chemical analytical and advisory service in the field of Forensic Toxicology in line with the policies, guidelines and strategies of Queensland Health and Forensic and Scientific Services at the Coopers Plains campus.
- Carry out the chemical analysis of biological specimens for alcohol, drugs and poisons in samples for clients such as the Qld Coroner and the Qld Police Service.
- Ensure that assigned instruments are installed, maintained, calibrated and that calibration records and associated documentation are maintained.
- Communicate effectively with other staff, clients and broader service provider organisations to support laboratory functions including attending meetings as directed. These include the Blood Bank and suppliers of calibration and technical services.
- Perform other laboratory tasks as directed by the Chief Chemist.
- Possess a knowledge of and compliance with, NATA/ISO accreditation/certification requirements including performing quality control procedures, preparation of procedure manuals and completion of relevant statistics. Apply established methods and procedures in the interests of monitoring quality control.
- Comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position, including the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, contemporary human resource management requirements and practices, such as Workplace Health and Safety, Infection Control, Equal Employment Chance and Anti-discrimination Policy.
About you
We are searching for someone who has:
- A minimum mandatory tertiary qualification (Associate Diploma, Advanced Diploma or equivalent) involving the equivalent of 2 years full time study in Science with a major emphasis in Chemistry.
- Demonstrated ability to provide chemical analytical services in a high throughput forensic toxicology laboratory in an accurate, timely and cost-effective manner.
- Knowledge and understanding of the discipline of analytical chemistry as it relates to forensic toxicology. With demonstrated abilities in a range of relevant procedures, techniques, and instrumentation and quality assurance systems.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills to communicate (both orally and in writing) and work effectively with staff to meet client requirements.
- Demonstrated commitment to the principles of quality management and continuous quality improvement and a contemporary knowledge of NATA/ISO Accreditation/Certification.
