Want to write for Australia's oldest rural weekly? Love the bush and sharing a good yarn? We are seeking an experienced journalist to join the North Queensland Register's editorial team in a full-time position. The successful candidate will report on the issues that matter to northern farmers - from politics to livestock markets, cropping, and bush characters - for both our print and online audiences. An understanding of agriculture and rural Queensland and/or experience in the agriculture industry would be highly valuable, but not essential. The ideal candidate will be based in Townsville or Charters Towers, though other north-west locations may be considered for the right person.

Key responsibilities:
- Gather, write and self-edit news stories for print and online publication.
- Use social media and digital storytelling tools to create engaging online content.
- Build robust relationships with readers and industry contacts to source stories.
- Attend, report on and represent the masthead at sales, conferences, and industry events.
The ideal candidate:
- A media professional with experience in either journalism or agriculture.
- Detail-oriented, organised and self-motivated.
- Skilled in managing deadlines and juggling competing priorities.
- A confident communicator who enjoys meeting new people.
