Head Chef

Offer description

Who we are?

Maydena Adventure (MA) is the parent company of the internationally acclaimed mountain bike and adventure tourism facility, Maydena Bike Park (MBP). MBP is widely regarded as Australia's top gravity-based mountain bike destination, featuring close to 100km of world-class trails, along with a full suite of complementary activities and services. Over recent years, MA has focused on expanding eco and adventure tourism products and experiences, a key pillar of which is the park's hospitality offerings. Other recently added activities include a sauna/wellness retreat, hiking trails, and wilderness ATV tours.

MBP has three key hospitality outlets, The Patio (low-key all day dining), The Local (brunch-lunch finer dining restaurant), and The Summit (unique mountain top restaurant). MBP intends to grow and diversify the current hospitality offerings, elevating quality, expanding the offerings, and focusing on high-quality local seasonal produce.

MBP is actively diversifying beyond mountain bike operations, with a multi-year vision to establish a wide range of eco and adventure tourism products and experiences.

MBP is one of Australia's busiest mountain bike destinations, and has seen sustained year-on-year growth since the park launched back in 2018. We are an independent, family-owned business with a big passion and an unwavering commitment to creating one of Australia's top adventure destinations.

The Role

The Head Chef role will oversee MBP's three key hospitality outlets, focusing on The Patio and The Local, with The Summit generally utilised only for infrequent events. The Head Chef will be responsible for managing a fast-paced kitchen environment, which will serve several hundred guests each day during peak periods. The Head Chef will manage a team of chefs and support staff, who focus on delivering a fresh, seasonal menu, catering to a diverse customer base.

MBP will work with the Head Chef to establish a new market garden, investing in infrastructure and support staff to manage a garden that will deliver fresh, seasonal produce. This significant project will facilitate a focus on paddock to plate dining, with a strong focus on fresh, local produce.

The role will include a focus on growing high end dining events at the park's iconic mountain top venue, The Summit, where there is significant opportunity to establish a truly world-class dining venue. A key focus will also be on growing the park's higher end dining offering, The Local, with a focus on small plates and platters. The Local intends to establish a top regional dining experience with a focus on top quality local produce, along with tasting of local beer, wine, and spirits.

Over the coming years, MBP has a big vision to establish a new resort village development, and grow into one of Australia's top adventure towns. The Head Chef role offers significant scope for career growth, and an opportunity to leave your mark on a truly exciting generational project.

The Head Chef will report directly to the General Manager.

The Lifestyle

Maydena is a remote mountain town, with a small but growing community. The Head Chef will have access to one of the world's top mountain bike trail networks, receiving free access for themselves and direct family to access the park and all park facilities. MBP offers flexible rostering and a strong focus on work/life balance- this role will suit a chef looking for a tree change, with a genuine love for the outdoors.

Maydena is located just 75 min from Hobart City, a fast-growing city, with exceptional dining, events, and shopping.
