About This Opportunity
We are seeking a reliable and motivated Animal Attendant to assist with the care and welfare of animals located in the School of Veterinary Science Buildings at the Gatton campus. The role also involves providing technical support such as setting up and assisting in undergraduate student practical classes and continuing education workshops and seminars.
**Responsibilities**:
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Cleaning and restocking of dog kennels, including the Quarantine/Isolation Unit, Teaching and Research Blocks and associated areas.
- Cleaning cat condominiums, including the Quarantine/Isolation Unit, and associated areas.
- Cleaning of ancillary rooms
- Emptying of bins
- Washing of laundry and management of the laundry, including hygiene practices
- Food preparation and management of the animal kitchen, including hygiene practices.
- Assistance with the collection and movement of animals
- Under the supervision of Academic staff, providing training/instructions to undergraduate and postgraduate students in companion animal welfare, husbandry and behaviour.
- Keeping accurate and up to date records and paperwork
- Driving the University vehicle
- Other duties as reasonably directed by the supervisor.
This is a full-time (100%), continuing position.
At HEW level 2, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $58,409.08 - $59,812.75, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $68,338.62 - $69,980.92 annually.
About You
- Completion of Certificate II in Animal Studies; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Knowledge and experience in the handling, restraint and care of animals, especially dogs, cats and birds
- An affinity for and experience in handling animals and a commitment to animal welfare.
- Ability to keep accurate records.
- Basic computer skills
- Proven ability to establish effective working relationships within a team.
- Demonstrated ability to use initiative work and work autonomously.
- Ability to relate well and communicate with a wide range of people including staff and students.
- Care and compassion for animals
- Large animal knowledge and experience with cattle, horses, pigs and sheep would be advantageous.
In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:
- Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
- Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
