Overview
Head of Commercial Risk & Compliance (Line 1) role within Brighter Super's Commercial division.
Reports to the Chief Commercial Officer.
Lead the uplift of operational risk and compliance practices across Product, Marketing, Digital, and Retirement, strengthening risk governance at a pivotal time for the fund.
This role acts as the dedicated Line 1 risk leader for the Commercial division, shaping risk culture, embedding practical frameworks, and ensuring risk is considered in commercial decision‑making.
You will work closely with Line 2 partners to provide strategic guidance and hands‑on support to senior leaders, contributing to stronger member outcomes, improved product governance, and greater operational discipline.
This role can be based in either Brisbane or Sydney.

Responsibilities
Embed effective first‑line risk practices across the Commercial division and uplift risk‑aware decision‑making.
Provide pragmatic risk advice, training, incident support, and control testing.
Partner with leaders to define risks, controls, and action plans aligned to the Risk Management Framework.
Support product governance, marketing and communication compliance, and regulatory reporting requirements.
Advise on change initiatives and projects to ensure risks are identified and managed appropriately.
Assist with incident management and escalations, driving learning‑based outcomes.
Monitor assurance activities and collaborate with Line 2 to mature Commercial's risk capability.
Champion a strong risk culture and act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders.
About you / Qualifications
Experience in operational risk within Line 1, ideally within superannuation or financial services.
Knowledge of product governance, member communications, and commercial operations.
Track record partnering with senior leaders and executives, with the presence and confidence to influence decision‑making.
Strong understanding of APRA and SIS requirements, RSE obligations, and relevant prudential standards.
Hands‑on experience in risk assessments, incident management, control testing, and governance processes.
Experience managing multiple concurrent projects or initiatives.
Understanding of change management within a project environment.
Collaborative leadership style with ability to engage with the ELT and mentor others across the business.
Exceptional relationship management and interpersonal skills: decisive, communicative, with integrity and accountability.
Resilience, self‑sufficiency, and commercial pragmatism; view risk management as an enabler of smarter business decisions.
