MOSAIC (Monash Students for AI with Communities) is where cutting-edge technology meets social good. We are a student-led initiative applying data science and human-centred computing to address real-world challenges faced by marginalized communities. Our projects aim to make technology inclusive, accessible, and impactful—improving the quality of life for those often underserved by mainstream innovation.
Role Description
This is a volunteer role open to current Monash University students only. As an Artificial Intelligence Engineer, you will collaborate with a dynamic team to design, implement, and test AI-driven solutions that respond to the needs of communities in Australia and beyond.
Your work may involve:
* Developing and applying AI/ML models, including neural networks and pattern recognition systems
* Writing and testing clean, efficient code
* Participating in cross-functional team meetings to co-design solutions with stakeholders
* Translating community challenges into technical requirements
You’ll be contributing to projects with real-world social impact, gaining experience in ethical AI development, and working in an interdisciplinary setting with other students passionate about tech for good.
Qualifications
We’re looking for students with a passion for AI and social impact. The ideal candidate will have:
* Basic knowledge or coursework in AI/ML (some experience preferred, but not required)
* Familiarity with neural networks, pattern recognition, and/or NLP
* Programming skills (e.g., Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar)
* Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking
* Effective communication and teamwork skills
* A genuine interest in working with or designing for marginalized communities
