Our ESD team are experts in integrating environmental, social and economic sustainability into buildings of all scales. Our engineering and design services help to deliver buildings that are more comfortable, have cleaner, fresher air, cost less to operate and tread lightly on the environment.
The Associate ESD Engineer/ Consultant (NSW), Better Buildings (ESD) is a senior practitioner responsible for leading the delivery of design led, evidence based sustainability solutions in New South Wales, fostering strong client and partner relationships, and maintaining a visible, values aligned HIP V. HYPE presence in the region.
The role is focused on being the key project lead for NSW based work, trusted point person for clients and collaborators, and a consistent advocate for HIP V. HYPE's approach and Brand Values in the local market. Working closely with the Head of Better Buildings (ESD), this role will support the execution of a metrics driven business development plan aligned with HIP V. HYPE's strategic goals and Brand Values.

* Salary from $120,000 (depending on skills and experience) + Superannuation

EXPERIENCE & ATTRIBUTES
Must Haves
* Deep alignment with Our Values and an active interest in sustainability is essential for any of Our People.
* 8+ years' experience in sustainability or related built environment fields, with strong project leadership and client facing experience.
* A relevant tertiary postgraduate qualification in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Energy Efficiency, Sustainable Design, or a related discipline.
* Demonstrated ability to build and sustain trusted relationships with clients, collaborators and stakeholders.
* Extensive project management experience with a strong client / partner focus.
* Established network of clients and industry collaborators, and proven client relationship management skills.
* Strong technical skills and knowledge relevant to Better Buildings (ESD) services, with confidence to lead projects end to end and coordinate multi disciplinary inputs.
* Strong knowledge of NSW planning and development application processes and requirements such as DA's, SSDA's, SEPP's (including but not limited to Sustainable Building SEPP's), BASIX.
* Sustainability accreditations such as Green Star AP, WELL AP, NABERS, Passive House Designer.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, including facilitation of workshops and presentations.
* Sound commercial understanding of project delivery (scoping, fees, budgets, risk).
* Proficient in using InDesign, Microsoft Office and project management software with an ability to learn new applications quickly.
Nice to Haves
* Competence in utilising AI driven tools or workflows to improve operational efficiency and quality of output.
* Experience in NatHERS (preferably certified assessor), upfront and embodied carbon, energy modelling (EnergyPlus), NABERS Energy.
TASKS
Administration
* Ensure NSW project documentation, schedules and reporting are kept accurate and up to date, in line with HIP V. HYPE systems and processes.
* Coordinate with internal teams (finance, marketing, other business units) to ensure smooth administration of NSW based projects
Finances
* Work with the Head of Better Buildings (ESD) to scope NSW projects, prepare fee proposals and manage budgets to deliver agreed commercial outcomes.
* Monitor and track financial performance of NSW with respect to work won, revenue generated and project delivery efficiency, with accountability for meeting agreed business targets.
* Provide NSW specific insights on client needs, emerging opportunities and risks to inform the national Better Buildings (ESD) strategy and business development plans.
* Contribute to the refinement of the Better Buildings (ESD) offering, project sheets and website by feeding back learnings from NSW projects and relationships.
* Monitor the NSW/QLD operating environment including competitors, regulatory trends and identification of talent to grow the Sydney based team over time.
Communication
* Act as a primary on the ground representative of HIP V. HYPE Better Buildings (ESD) in NSW, ensuring all engagements are aligned with our Brand Values and strategic priorities.
* Maintain a visible presence at relevant industry events, forums and networks, focusing on building recognition and trust for HIP V. HYPE in the NSW market.
* Provide high quality content (project sheets, sustainability insights, speaking opportunities etc.) to the Marketing & Communications team to showcase NSW work and perspectives.
* When appropriate, engage with government and institutional stakeholders as a knowledgeable practitioner and advocate for better sustainability outcomes, in alignment with organisational positions.
* Collaborate closely with colleagues in other regions, drawing on their expertise to support NSW projects and sharing insights back into the broader team.
* Provide informal mentoring and support to colleagues working on NSW projects (regardless of where they are located), helping them understand NSW specific context and client expectations.
* Contribute to Better Buildings knowledge sharing sessions, internal forums and communities of practice, with a focus on lessons from NSW work.
* Actively develop your own knowledge base and capability by participating in events, seeking relevant accreditations and undertaking formal training.
Business Development
* Support the Head of Better Buildings (ESD) to deliver a region specific, dynamic and metrics driven business development plan for NSW, aligned with the national strategy.
* Foster and maintain strong relationships with key clients, collaborators, and partners in NSW, acting as their primary Better Buildings (ESD) point of contact.
* Identify and follow up on potential opportunities or referrals that emerge through your project work and networks.
* Contribute to EOIs, proposals and interviews as the proposed project lead and local face of the team.
* Proactively nurture existing relationships – checking in, sharing insights, inviting clients to events – to support long term partnerships rather than transactional work.
* Provide feedback on which activities and relationships are most effective in building HIP V. HYPE's presence in NSW, so others can align formal BD efforts accordingly.
Project Delivery
* Act as a trusted advisor to clients by bringing evidence based insights, clear communication and balanced judgement on trade offs.
* Coordinate with internal subject matter experts (e.g. Technical Director, VIC team) to bring the right skills to NSW projects and deepen relationships through quality delivery.
* Act as project lead on NSW based projects by owning client communication and expectations, coordinating internal and external teams, managing scope, program, risk and quality.
* Lead reporting, presentations and narratives that clearly communicate project intent, evidence and impact.
* Ensure NSW projects apply HIP V. HYPE's technical standards, tools and QA processes, involving the Technical Director where needed on complex issues.
* Lead and facilitate client workshops and stakeholder engagements, ensuring a productive process and strong sustainability outcomes.
