We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Boat Builder/ Repairer and an experienced Rigger to help construct and maintain vessels with precision and pride. Job may entail travel within Southeast Queensland.
Responsibilities
- Build, assemble, and finish boat hulls and components (wood, fiberglass, or aluminum depending on project).
- Interpret technical drawings and plans when necessary.
- Install structural, mechanical, and interior components.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Perform repairs and modifications as needed.
- Install and service winches, furling systems, deck hardware and lifelines.
Requirements – Boat Builder
- 2+ years of experience in boat building, carpentry, or related trades.
- Knowledge of marine construction materials and methods.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Team player with a strong work ethic and good communication skills.
- Physical ability to perform manual labour.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and in outdoor environments.
- Excellent attention to detail and safety awareness and craftsmanship.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Requirements – Rigger
- Install, inspect and maintain standing and running rigging (wire, rod, synthetic).
- Fit and tune rigging to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Step and unstep masts, booms and spars.
- Install and service winches, furling systems, deck hardware and lifelines.
- Fabricate custom rigging components (e.g., swaging, splicing and rope work).
- Interpret rigging diagrams, load charts and deck layouts.
- Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Perform repairs to mast and modifications as needed.
- Collaborate with boatbuilders, sailmakers and marine engineers.
Rigger Qualifications
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in marine rigging (sailing or commercial vessels).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
- Team player with a strong work ethic and good communication skills.
- Physical ability to perform manual labour.
- Knowledge of rigging tools, materials and tensioning systems.
- Familiarity with various types of cordage, wire, terminals and fittings.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and in outdoor environments.
- Excellent attention to detail and safety awareness and craftsmanship.
- Solid communication and teamwork skills.
