About the Role
Reporting to the Operations & Purchasing Manager, the Procurement Officer is responsible for establishing and maintaining a capable supply base for assigned material groups. This role has a dual focus, supporting both business unit and group purchasing activities, along with responsibility for specific project-based assignments.
You will play a key role in developing and negotiating supply agreements, providing market intelligence, driving cost reduction initiatives and supporting supplier performance across the business. This role requires strong commercial acumen, negotiation capability and the ability to collaborate across multiple sites.
Travel between Bucher Municipal sites and supplier locations within Australia will be required.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop a strong understanding of the supplier market for assigned material groups
* Lead engineering and quality teams in supplier selection and continuous improvement
* Conduct supplier research, benchmarking and ongoing supplier management
* Draft, negotiate and manage supply agreements (commercial, financial and legal)
* Manage supplier contracts and resolve supply, quality and contractual issues
* Monitor and report on supplier performance
* Drive cost reduction initiatives, considering:
* Market pricing and product quality
* Product and process costs
* Inventory, scheduling flexibility and carrying costs
* Supplier rationalisation
* Develop and implement new cost reduction strategies
* Conduct supplier assessments and audits
* Support the Head of Purchasing with group purchasing activities
* Support operational purchasing teams with performance improvement plans and dispute resolution
* Prepare reports and updates for senior management
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management or a related field
* Minimum 3 years' experience in procurement or buying, ideally in an engineering or manufacturing environment
* Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supplier negotiations and cost management
* Experience with MRP systems, inventory management (Kanban/JIT) and forecasting
* Proven ability to manage supplier performance and deliver cost reductions
* Commercial awareness with strong analytical and financial skills
* Demonstrated experience managing suppliers against targets and benchmarks
* Experience in project management and strong commercial awareness
* Exposure to international purchasing environments
* Understanding of engineering practices and design changes
* Proficient in Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft Office and related systems
* Procurement or supply chain certification (CIPS, CPSM, CSCP) desirable
