About the Role
As the Platform Engineering Manager at the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA), you will lead teams responsible for the Bank's Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, DevOps tooling and platform-based engineering services. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Infrastructure Engineering, you will set technical direction, uplift engineering maturity, and ensure services are reliable, secure and aligned with the Bank's strategic and operational requirements.
* Shape and advance the strategic direction of Platform Engineering, ensuring platform roadmaps, automation capabilities, and platform choices align with organisational priorities and maximise technology investment.
* Maintain operational accountability by effectively managing people, financials, vendors and delivery processes, with clear ownership of platform services and their performance, availability, security, and functionality.
* Lead, guide and develop individuals and teams, building capability, providing clarity of roles, and supporting the delivery of defined RBA objectives.
* Ensure technology solutions and processes adhere to required IT policies, standards, risk frameworks and controls.
* Drive continuous improvement of systems, standards and processes, adopt industry standards and best practices, and maintain accurate and current documentation across platform services.
* Identify and respond to issues, risks and opportunities, ensuring appropriate processes and resources are in place to deliver technology solutions that are consistent with agreed service levels.
* Build and maintain strong internal and external relationships, ensuring alignment of expectations, timely communication, and effective removal of delivery blockers.
* Promote a high‑trust, collaborative engineering culture, empowering teams through self‑service, automation, and continuous improvement.
About You
* You bring strong people and operational leadership experience, including developing capability, setting clear expectations, and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
* You are an experienced technology leader capable of influencing technical decision making, navigating complex initiatives, and balancing operational stability with ongoing service improvement.
* You have a solid understanding of Platform Engineering concepts, technologies, and patterns across hybrid environments, and can constructively challenge solution designs and influence maturity uplifts without being hands‑on.
* You have experience implementing, evolving, or scaling Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and DevOps platforms in complex or regulated environments, including toolsets such as Azure DevOps Services, HCP Terraform, Puppet, Artifactory, SonarQube, Fortify and Xray.
* You have experience in platform ownership, including operating and governing standards, patterns, automation frameworks, and common services used across multiple teams.
* You work effectively with architecture, security, engineering, operations, delivery teams, and vendors, influencing decisions and resolving technical and operational risks.
* You bring a strong understanding of Financial Services, Government, or similarly regulated environments, including relevant policies, risk frameworks, and compliance obligations.
* You understand the importance of operational maturity and ensure that platforms are supportable, reliable, secure, and fit for ongoing operation.
* You have a pragmatic understanding of ITIL and of applying Waterfall, Agile, and Kanban delivery methodologies.
* You have strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills with experience providing assurance and clear advice to senior leaders.
