We deliver and support digital government services that are easy to access, save time, and are safe to use. Join Digital Canberra and help deliver smart, secure, and seamless digital services that improve the people that live and work in our beautiful city and surrounding area.
At Digital Canberra, you’ll work with passionate technologists, policy experts, and designers to build and sustain services that matter. We value curiosity, collaboration, and creativity, and we’re committed to helping you grow.
Digital Canberra is seeking an experienced and collaborative Senior Oracle Database Engineer and Linux Specialist.
About the role
As a senior member of our UNIX/Linux and Database team, you’ll provide operational maintenance and technical leadership for the ACT Government’s Oracle platform and database environment—supporting critical services used across the Territory. You’ll deliver expert advice, troubleshoot complex issues alongside application support specialists, and contribute to proactive monitoring and risk management across varied sites and technologies.
You will design, develop, and maintain Oracle‑based solutions (including Oracle Database, Fusion and WebLogic middleware, ORDS APIs, and E‑Business Suite R12), and build secure, scalable Linux solutions using automation tools such as Ansible and Oracle OLAM. You’ll also handle OS patching/upgrades, software installs, and the planning, documentation, and support of project work. This role participates in an after‑hours on‑call roster.
What you bring
You have significant experience across enterprise Solaris/UNIX/Linux environments, Oracle database engineering (including upgrades and license management), Fusion/WebLogic middleware, RAC or Minicluster, and E‑Business Suite R12. You’re skilled in Linux hardening and auditing, file systems (ZFS, EXT*, XFS, NFS), and administering Linux VMs in Microsoft Azure. Strong liaison skills, clear written documentation, and a commitment to excellent customer service round out your profile.
Team & setting: You’ll sit within the Technology Services Branch (TSB), which implements and manages core ICT systems and network capabilities that underpin service delivery across the ACT Government.
What we offer you
At Digital Canberra, we offer a rewarding government career that has a direct, positive impact on the Canberra community. You may be strategic, helping us lead technology investment decisions to build a genuinely connected Canberra. Or you may enjoy the hands-on satisfaction of working with the latest technology to keep our hospitals, schools, and government running. At Digital Canberra, you will make a difference!
