The South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in Bunbury which provides a variety of health services to Aboriginal people in the South West, Great South, Upper wheatbelt and Peel Regions of Western Australia. SWAMS delivers a wide range of Services including GP Clinics, Primary Health Care, Counselling, and community host various programs. SWAMS has a strong growth strategy through partnership opportunities and future community development.
SWAMS is dedicated to enhancing employment opportunities and outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This position is designated under Section 50 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA), and as such, only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.
We are currently seeking a Cultural Lead to join our Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Team. In this role, you will provide cultural advice, leadership, and guidance to ensure the delivery of culturally safe and responsive SEWB care to SWAMS clients.

The Cultural Lead will also play a key role in guiding and mentoring the SEWB team, while working collaboratively with managers, clinicians, and external stakeholders.
This diverse role offers a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Responsibilities
* Providing cultural leadership within the workplace.
* Coordinating and managing the treatment of clients' mental, emotional, and behavioural symptoms as required.
* Offering constructive feedback regarding clients' attitudes and behaviours.
* Providing mentoring, comfort, advocacy, and support to clients.
* Collaborating with SWAMS clinical teams, remote services, member services, and external mental health providers to ensure quality, integration, and continuous improvement across SEWB and primary health care.
* Supporting team members in developing community development and prevention skills.
* Ability to communicate sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
* Understanding of the intergenerational impacts of Stolen Generation policies.
* Strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture and the ability to work effectively with Aboriginal and culturally diverse people.
* High‐level interpersonal and communication skills.
* Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing, facilitation, and data collection.
* Current driver's licence and ability to travel throughout the South West Region.
* Knowledge of and engagement with local mental health and social support services in the South West.
* Understanding of relevant legislative requirements.
* Experience in Community or Aboriginal Health.
Qualifications
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work with Aboriginal and culturally diverse communities.
* Experience in community or Aboriginal health settings.
* Understanding of the intergenerational impacts of policies affecting Aboriginal communities is desirable.
* Current driver's licence and ability to travel within the South West region.
* Knowledge of local mental health and social support services is advantageous.
