Job Overview

Dusty Fabrications Pty Ltd and Precision Research and Technological Development are seeking a skilled and versatile Engineering Technician (Fabrication & CNC Operations) to join our close-knit team in Queanbeyan, NSW.

This role combines hands-on manufacturing with technical and engineering support responsibilities, requiring expertise in CNC laser cutting, fabrication, CAD software, and production optimisation. The successful candidate will play a critical role in supporting advanced metal manufacturing operations, contributing to prototyping, research and development, and production efficiency.

As we expand into advanced manufacturing and position ourselves as a key supplier to the defence and high-tech sectors, this role offers a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology, including a state-of-the-art Amada 6kW Rotary Index Laser System. Specialized Amada training and ongoing professional development will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

CNC and Laser Operations

* Operate, monitor, and maintain CNC rotary index and plate laser cutting equipment to ensure precision and quality.

* Program and optimise CNC machinery using approved software and control systems.

* Assist in press brake operations and other fabrication processes as required.

Engineering and Technical Support

* Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, CAD files, and DXF models to support fabrication and manufacturing.

* Assist in the design, development, and modification of mechanical components and fabrication assemblies.

* Prepare technical documentation, layouts, and production plans.

Process Improvement and Production Efficiency

* Analyse production data to improve workflow efficiency, material utilisation, and manufacturing accuracy.

* Recommend process improvements to enhance productivity and reduce waste.

* Support research, development, and prototyping initiatives.

Quality Assurance and Compliance

* Conduct inspections and testing of finished products to ensure compliance with specifications and Australian Standards.

* Ensure adherence to workplace health and safety regulations and company quality systems.

* Maintain accurate production and maintenance records.

Maintenance and Equipment Coordination

* Assist in coordinating servicing and maintenance of CNC machinery and workshop equipment.

* Troubleshoot equipment and software issues to minimise downtime.

Project Coordination and Documentation

* Estimate material quantities, job costs, and machine requirements to support quoting and project planning.

* Prepare technical reports and documentation to support engineering and operational teams.

* Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and workshop personnel to ensure seamless project delivery.

Fabrication and Installation Support

* Assist with fabrication, assembly, and installation of structural steel and metalwork projects as required.

* Support site installation activities when necessary.

Qualifications

Education

* Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.

Technical Skills

* Proficiency in operating CNC machinery, including laser cutting equipment.

* Experience with CAD and CAM software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar.

* Ability to interpret and modify CAD and DXF files using advanced 3D software.

* Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, fabrication techniques, and engineering principles.

* Knowledge of Australian Standards and workplace safety requirements.

Experience

* Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering, or metal fabrication environment.

* Experience with Amada laser systems is highly regarded but not essential.

Communication and Problem-Solving

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive approach.

Physical Requirements

* Ability to perform tasks associated with operating and maintaining fabrication machinery, including standing for extended periods and lifting materials.
