About the Role
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the detailed engineering and design of components and sub-systems for belt conveyor equipment. Success in this role requires strong technical capability, the ability to meet deadlines, and effective stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities,
* Design modelling, engineering calculations, and implementation of product improvements
* Ensure detailed design intent is accurately documented in collaboration with Draftsmen
* Develop and upgrade 3D models, manage material selection, and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs)
* Produce 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor
* Liaise with Project Managers and clients on technical matters as required
* Contribute to cost-reduction initiatives and optimisation of equipment designs
* Coordinate with the drafting team to produce fabrication and installation drawings
* Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on equipment and components
About You
You hold a tertiary degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related discipline) and have a minimum of 2–3 years' relevant engineering experience. You possess strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with CAD software, including AutoCAD and Inventor, supported by a solid understanding of mechanical design principles, materials selection, and manufacturing documentation.
You demonstrate well-developed analytical and problem-solving capabilities, together with sound commercial and financial awareness. This includes preparing accurate cost estimates, supporting project budgeting, and contributing to forecasting activities. Confident communication and strong interpersonal skills are essential, as you will collaborate closely with customers, suppliers, and internal teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
You are highly organised and detail-oriented, with the ability to prioritise workloads, manage schedules effectively, and maintain high quality assurance standards. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, email platforms, and 2D/3D modelling software is required. Experience in FEA, DEM, and P&T modelling is highly regarded.
To succeed in this role, you will have:
* Experience designing conveyor belt equipment, particularly within the Australian mining industry
* Intermediate-level 3D design capability using Autodesk Inventor
* Extensive hands-on exposure to FEA, specifically Autodesk Inventor/Nastran
* Proven knowledge and understanding of FEMA
* Strong analytical capability, including detailed engineering and/or manual calculations
* Excellent time management skills, consistently delivering work within agreed deadlines
