Your new role
As the External Budget Officer, you will contribute to the department's external budget coordination, strategic advice and delivery of key Commonwealth Budget publications. You will provide high-quality analysis, guidance and briefings to senior executives and Ministers, supporting outcomes across the portfolio.
In this role, you will:
Support or lead (depending on level) the development of strategic and technical advice on Budget and Cabinet processes.
Analyse, review and manage program estimates and costing models to inform forward estimates.
Assist with or oversee the preparation of Portfolio Budget Statements, Additional Estimates Statements and related submissions.
Provide advice to business areas on New Policy Proposals, costings and detailed justifications.
Liaise with internal stakeholders, portfolio entities and central agencies to ensure accurate and timely Budget content.
Contribute to briefing packages, Ministerial correspondence and responses to ad hoc requests.
This position can be based across Australia and may be offered on an ongoing or non-ongoing basis.
What you'll need to succeed
You will bring:
Demonstrated understanding of the Australian Government Budget and Cabinet processes.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information and manage competing priorities.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Sound judgement, initiative and the ability to work flexibly in a fast-paced environment.
Experience delivering complex advice to senior stakeholders.
Relevant qualifications or progress toward Commerce, CA/CPA (desirable).
