About us

SafeWork NSW is the state's workplace health and safety regulator. Our mission is to reduce work‐related fatalities, injuries and illnesses by ensuring workplaces comply with health and safety laws. We achieve this through a mix of responsive and proactive programs targeting high‐risk areas across all industries, aligned with our strategic plan and regulatory priorities.

SafeWork NSW has just transformed to become a modern, strong, and independent Work Health and Safety Regulator, with the Investigations and Enforcement Directorate being responsible for providing frontline advisory, triage and response functions, including leading and/or contributing to first response activities for critical WHS incidents. This Directorate also leads the investigation of WHS matters, management of the High‐Risk Workplace and Repeat Offender Program and manages and coordinates SafeWork's Enforceable Undertakings function. Broadly the Directorate also leads and/or contributes to building and maintaining critical partnerships and relationships with other regulators, and communicating WHS regulatory outcomes and lessons learnt to industry and the community.

About you

You will be a highly capable and self‐directed professional with demonstrated experience supporting senior leaders in fast‐paced, high‐profile or regulatory environments. You will excel at exercising judgement, navigating sensitive information, and managing complex priorities with minimal direction. Your strength lies in anticipating needs, streamlining workflows, and maintaining exceptional standards of accuracy, discretion and professionalism. You bring maturity, resilience and confidence in managing competing demands while enabling the Director and Directorate to operate efficiently and strategically.

You must have the ability to confidently:

* Proactively manage the Director's calendar, commitments and inbox by exercising sound judgement, anticipating needs, resolving scheduling conflicts and ensuring strategic priorities are met with minimal direction.
* Oversee the flow of information and correspondence by triaging, preparing and quality‐checking sensitive documents, briefs, meeting papers and communications to ensure accuracy, confidentiality and alignment with organisational standards.
* Coordinate end‐to‐end logistics for Directorate and leadership meetings, stakeholder engagements and travel, including preparation of documentation, technology requirements, venue arrangements and follow‐up actions.
* Maintain accurate and compliant administrative systems, records and databases, and improve workflows and processes to support efficient operations across the Directorate.
* Act as a trusted and professional liaison for internal and external stakeholders by managing enquiries, resolving issues where appropriate, and escalating matters requiring higher‐level attention or judgement.
* Oversee essential administrative processes, including light procurement, finance administration and ordering of required materials, ensuring all transactions and workflows comply with departmental policies and support efficient Directorate operations.
To be successful, you must bring:
* Demonstrated executive‐level administrative capability, including the maturity to independently manage a Director's time, priorities and information flow with discretion, judgement and strategic awareness.
* Highly competent and precise minute‐taking skills, with the proven ability to capture decisions, actions, key discussions and critical issues accurately and succinctly, ensuring clear documentation for governance and timely follow‐up.
* Exceptional organisational and time‐management skills, with the ability to navigate high volumes of competing requests, negotiate workable timeframes and maintain accuracy and attention to detail under pressure.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, enabling the candidate to anticipate issues, address unforeseen challenges, and adapt workflows or processes to maintain operational efficiency.
* Highly effective communication and stakeholder‐engagement skills, with demonstrated confidence in liaising with staff, leadership, external partners and customers, including knowing when to resolve issues and when to elevate.
* A commitment to accuracy, confidentiality and compliance, with proven ability to handle sensitive information, maintain records in accordance with policies, and ensure administrative systems and documentation meet organisational standards.
* Proficiency in managing core administrative processes, including preparing high‐quality documents and reports, coordinating logistics, and supporting procurement and finance‐related tasks in line with departmental procedures.
