What you'll be doing...
As the Delivery Lead – Commercial, you'll lead a high-performing squad to deliver critical integration and API capabilities that enable our commercial operations across the network. You'll also champion an AI-first mindset and way of working within your squad, encouraging and demonstrating the adoption of technology to streamline software delivery processes such as requirements engineering, project tracking, design and code generation.
Sitting at the intersection of business and technology, you'll be accountable for end-to-end delivery—translating strategy into execution, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring initiatives are delivered on time, within budget, and with real business impact.
Leadership & Team Performance
* Lead and develop a squad of engineers, fostering a strong, engaged and high-performing team
* Create a culture of accountability, continuous improvement and delivery excellence
* Demonstrate and encourage an AI-first approach to delivery and be a role model to the squad as to what good looks like in an augmented engineering environment.
Delivery & Execution
* Own the end-to-end delivery of integration and API initiatives supporting commercial operations
* Manage backlogs, sprint planning and prioritisation in partnership with stakeholders
* Proactively identify and remove blockers to keep delivery on track
Commercial & Financial Management
* Manage budgets, forecasts and financial performance for your squad
* Lead estimation of new initiatives, ensuring clear and realistic delivery plans
* Track performance against scope, timeline and budget, providing clear insights to stakeholders
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance
* Partner closely with business and technology stakeholders to align priorities and outcomes
* Provide clear, concise reporting on delivery progress, risks and financials
* Manage change requests to ensure alignment with agreed scope and objectives
Vendor & Resource Management
* Oversee vendor relationships, including contracts, performance and service levels
* Optimise resource allocation to meet both delivery and financial targets
Platform Health & Operational Support
* Ensure integration platforms remain modern, secure and resilient
* Act as a senior escalation point for complex production or cyber incidents
* Embed DevOps practices, including shared ownership of production support
AI Augmented Delivery Embedment
* Champion delivery practices that leverage frontier models to drive efficiency, performance and quality across the delivery lifecycle
* Work with your engineering lead to determine and trial generative AI approaches that work within the context of Virgin's software engineering teams to drive efficiency and quality outcomes
You will be great in this role if you have...
* Degree in IT, Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
* Proven experience leading delivery of complex technology initiatives, ideally in integration or backend environments
* Strong leadership capability, with experience managing and developing high-performing teams
* Solid understanding of Agile delivery (Scaled Agile experience advantageous)
* Experience delivering cloud-based, scalable solutions (e.g. AWS, containerisation platforms such as EKS)
* Strong commercial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting and vendor management
* Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across all levels of the business
* Experience working with managed services and offshore delivery partners
* Strong communication, problem solving and facilitation skills
* Understanding of modern API and integration practices
* Familiarity with ITIL, release management, and data/privacy considerations
* Airline or broader commercial experience (desirable)
* Experience introducing generative AI technologies and frontier models into the software delivery process
