The role

Lead Schema Therapist (Clinical Psychologist)

Build and Grow Schema Therapy Services Within One of South Australia's Largest Psychology Practices

At Willow Tree Psychology and Wellbeing, we believe that exceptional therapy is built on exceptional clinicians, strong professional relationships, and a culture of continuous learning.

As one of Adelaide's largest and well-established psychology practices, our team of 33 psychologists includes 11 Board-Approved Supervisors, Clinical Psychologists, Senior Psychologists, and clinicians with a diverse range of expertise. We have created a genuine professional community where collaboration, mentorship, and shared learning are part of everyday practice, not just something reserved for supervision sessions.

We are now seeking an experienced and passionate Schema Therapist to join our team in a newly created leadership opportunity.

This role has been developed in response to significant and growing demand for Schema Therapy services. It offers a unique opportunity to build, expand, and influence the development of Schema Therapy services within our practice while working alongside an experienced and highly collaborative clinical team.

Whether you are already an Advanced Certified Schema Therapist or are actively working towards Advanced Certification, this role offers the opportunity to become a recognised leader within a highly supportive and innovative clinical environment.

The Opportunity

This is far more than a traditional therapy role.

As our Lead Schema Therapist, you will have the opportunity to provide Schema Therapy while helping guide the ongoing development of Schema Therapy services within one of South Australia's largest psychology practices.

Build and Expand Schema Therapy Services

We see Schema Therapy as a significant growth area for our practice and are committed to investing in its future.

Depending on your interests and experience, opportunities may include:

  • Designing and implementing innovative Schema Therapy programs
  • Developing Schema Therapy treatment pathways
  • Creating and facilitating Schema Therapy groups
  • Building Schema Therapy programs for adolescents, adults, couples, families, or specific clinical populations
  • Contributing to the strategic growth of Schema Therapy within the practice
  • Supporting the development of a strong Schema Therapy culture across our clinical team

We welcome clinicians with ideas, initiative, and enthusiasm for service development.

Help Shape What Comes Next

We are committed to investing in the growth of Schema Therapy at Willow Tree and are seeking a clinician who wants to play an active role in its development.

Whether your interests lie in supervision, training, group programs, service development, leadership, or developing Schema Therapy treatment pathways, we are open to designing aspects of the role around the strengths, experience, and aspirations of the right candidate.

This is an opportunity to create something meaningful, influence clinical practice within the organisation, and contribute to the long-term growth of Schema Therapy services at Willow Tree.

Become a Clinical Leader

You will play a key role in fostering Schema Therapy knowledge and skills throughout our clinical team by:

  • Supporting colleagues undertaking formal Schema Therapy training
  • Providing peer consultation and case discussion
  • Contributing to our internal professional development activities
  • Helping build a strong Schema Therapy culture across the practice
  • Providing Schema Therapy supervision to clinicians working towards formal accreditation through the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST) for suitably certified applicants at Supervisor or Trainer level

Influence the Next Generation of Therapists

For clinicians holding relevant supervision credentials, opportunities may also exist to:

  • Provide Board‐Approved supervision
  • Support Clinical Psychology Registrars
  • Mentor early‐career psychologists
  • Contribute to student placement programs

What We Are Looking For

  • Completion of a Master of Clinical Psychology degree (or recognised equivalent qualification), with registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Ability to obtain a Medicare Provider Number
  • Professional Indemnity Insurance
  • DHS Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • National Police Check (NPC)
  • Completion of RRHAN‐EC training prior to commencement

Schema Therapy Experience

  • Advanced Certification with the International Society of Schema Therapy (ISST)
  • Certification as an ISST Supervisor and Trainer
  • Standard Certification with the ISST, together with active engagement in supervision and clinical practice towards Advanced Certification
  • Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Psychology
  • Psychology Board‐Approved Supervisor status
  • Experience providing supervision to registrars, students, or early‐career psychologists
  • Experience facilitating therapy groups
  • Experience in program development and service innovation

Why Join Willow Tree Psychology and Wellbeing?

At Willow Tree Psychology and Wellbeing, we intentionally move away from the traditional private practice model where clinicians work in isolation behind consulting room doors.

Instead, we have built a collaborative psychology hub where clinicians actively learn from one another, share knowledge, seek support, and grow professionally together.

We believe our clients receive the best outcomes when clinicians are supported, connected, and given the time and resources required to do their best work.

Unlike many private practices that utilise contractor arrangements, Willow Tree offers secure salaried employment, professional support, leave entitlements, and the opportunity to build a sustainable long‐term career.

Career Development and Progression

At Willow Tree, we recognise that leadership and professional growth can take many forms.

Depending on your interests and experience, opportunities may include:

  • Becoming an ISST Supervisor or Trainer
  • Providing Board‐Approved supervision
  • Supporting Clinical Psychology Registrars and early‐career psychologists
  • Facilitating internal professional development and peer consultation activities
  • Developing and expanding group programmes
  • Contributing to practice‐wide clinical innovation
  • Progressing into senior clinical or leadership positions

We are committed to supporting clinicians who wish to develop their influence, leadership capabilities, and contribution to the profession.

Our Culture

  • Warm, welcoming, and highly supportive team culture
  • Strong collegial relationships and genuine collaboration
  • Inclusive and affirming LGBTQIA+ safe space
  • Diverse and interesting clinical presentations
  • Commitment to improving accessibility to quality mental health care
  • Flexible working arrangements that support work‐life balance
  • Full‐time or part‐time salaried positions available
  • Above‐market salary package
  • Opportunities for leadership, service development and professional influence
  • Individual supervision with Senior Psychologists, Clinical Psychologists, and Practice Leadership
  • Board‐Approved supervision for Clinical Psychology Registrars
  • Regular peer consultation and supervision groups during work hours
  • Reimbursement of AHPRA registration fees (for clinicians working 3+ days per week)
  • Comprehensive administrative and practice management support
  • Electronic systems and streamlined workflows
  • Shared clinical resource library
  • Regular team events, celebrations, and social gatherings
  • Free all‐day parking
  • Long Service Leave accrual
  • Annual Leave and Personal Leave entitlements
  • Superannuation

Most importantly, you will join a team of psychologists who genuinely enjoy working together and are passionate about delivering high‐quality psychological care.

We welcome conversations with clinicians who would like to learn more about the role, explore the opportunity, or simply have an informal discussion about the future direction of Schema Therapy at Willow Tree.
