The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a capable Senior Accountant to join the Lease Accounting Team within Woolworths Finance Shared Services (FSS) on a 10 month secondment basis due to an internal secondment. Woolworths Finance Shared Services (FSS) is one of the largest in Australia and is in the top 20 best performing FSS globally.
Reporting to the Accounting Manager (Leases) with up to 4 direct reports, the successful individual will provide financial management support to the Group Lease portfolio as it continues growth and renewal operations.
What you'll do
* Ensure reconciliations are prepared and/or reviewed effectively and provide a clear description of outstanding items, have appropriate supporting documentation, and an action plan where necessary
* Provide accurate lease and financial data within PEPS (internal lease management system) and SAP whilst also managing lease accruals and mitigating financial risk for business units
* Contribute insights into occupancy cost and IFRS16 lease accounting implications
* Lead and drive continuous system and process improvements to achieve efficiency and effectiveness
* Lead the Annual Operating Plan for occupancy costs and IFRS16 Profit & Loss / Balance Sheets, strategy and accounting policy changes
* Lead and maintain subject matter expertise on IFRS16 lease accounting standards, including increasing understanding across all areas of Woolworths of the impact of IFRS16 on occupancy costs for Financial Control, Property Management and Divisional Finance teams
* Leadership of small finance team – ability to manage, delegate, train, and monitor performance
What you'll bring
* Finance related degree with a CA or CPA qualification
* Experience with property leases
* Experience using financial systems in a commercial environment e.g. Excel (pivot tables, vlookups), Google Suite, SAP, BPC highly regarded
* Proactive attitude, excellent communication and curious nature
* Ability to synthesise large amounts of data from a variety of sources using advanced analytical and problem solving skills
* A desire to develop and mentor colleagues
* 5+ years relevant experience, exposure in retail/large corporate will be advantageous
* Communicating complex financial information in a simple and engaging way, using strong presentation and storyboarding skills
