Our graduates become skilled, compassionate practitioners committed to improving healthcare, especially in regional, rural, and remote communities.

About the Role

The Co‐Head of Students plays a central role in supporting student success across the School by providing high‐quality academic progression advice, reviewing student applications, and guiding decisions on study load, leave, appeals and withdrawals aligned with University processes and policies. Working closely with the other Co‐Head of Students and Phase Chairs, you will monitor student performance, coordinate interventions, and ensure students in Phases 2–4 are well supported throughout their learning journey.

You will draw on clinical experience to optimise learning support, oversee remediation pathways, and contribute to equity initiatives in collaboration with key academic leaders. The role also supports international medical students seeking traineeships, provides evidence‐based advice to School and Faculty leadership, and contributes to governance through active participation in key committees. As the School's representative on university‐wide student committees, you will help uphold academic standards and enhance the overall student experience.

The role is also in place to support UOW to meet Accreditation Standards for Primary Medical Programs under the Australian Medical Council.

About You

You are a qualified medical practitioner with a strong understanding of the higher education landscape and the challenges facing medical students today. You bring experience providing academic advice, navigating university policy frameworks, and managing academic decision reviews with fairness and sound judgement. Your leadership style is collaborative and adaptable, enabling you to implement change and build effective relationships across the University. You are an analytical problem‐solver who contributes ideas, evaluates processes with confidence, and works constructively within academic governance structures. With postgraduate qualifications, a record of scholarship, and experience teaching in medicine or health disciplines, you are committed to supporting student success and upholding high academic and professional standards.
