Driving Inclusive Impact | Bridging Purpose, People & Performance
Sector: First Nations | Arts & Culture | Community
Shape the future of Australia's oldest Aboriginal-owned and managed cultural institute.
We're partnering with Tandanya – the National Aboriginal Cultural Institute – to find a values-driven and strategic leader to guide the organisation through its next phase of growth and cultural impact.
Tandanya is a proudly First Nations-led cultural institution with national reach, grounded in the stories, art, and wisdom of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Based in Adelaide on Kaurna Country, Tandanya is a beacon for cultural expression and leadership.
About the Role:
You'll provide executive, operational, and cultural leadership. Working closely with the Board and community, you'll bring Tandanya's 2025–2030 Strategic Plan to life - championing financial sustainability, cultural integrity, and national partnerships.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead the implementation of Tandanya's Strategic Plan across five core pillars
* Strengthen governance and ensure sustainable financial management
* Embed cultural integrity in all programs through collaboration with Elders and community
* Build partnerships with government, donors, and cultural institutions
* Advocate for First Nations self-determination, workforce development, and leadership
About You:
You're a culturally grounded leader with the ability to build trust, influence strategically, and deliver operational outcomes. You value collaboration, accountability, and community-led decision making.
* Senior leadership experience in cultural, community, or not-for-profit settings
* Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and governance
* Experience in strategy, stakeholder engagement, and financial oversight
* Inclusive and values-led leadership style
* Background in visual arts, multidisciplinary programming, or cultural facilities
* Experience working with Aboriginal boards, artists, or communities
* Lead a nationally significant cultural institution with deep community roots
* Collaborate with respected Elders, artists, and community leaders
* Drive systemic change through arts, culture, and storytelling
* Competitive salary and a culturally grounded, supportive work environment
