Manager Environment and Conservation

Council is seeking to appoint a permanent full time Manager Environment and Conservation to contribute to Council's success.

* Lead at scale: Senior leadership role guiding a skilled, multidisciplinary team across a complex operating environment, with a strong focus on accountability and delivery.
* Shape culture and performance: Drive a culture of collaboration, ownership and results through effective leadership, governance and systems-based thinking.
* Make a lasting impact: Play a critical role in meeting legislative obligations while strengthening governance, risk management and sustainable outcomes for Council.

About the Role

This is a key strategic management role and is required to provide high level management and leadership oversight of the Environment and Conservation function across Council with a team of environmental and conservation professionals. The purpose of this position is to provide leadership and guidance to the Gladstone Regional Council business to meet its land, environment, and water quality legislative obligations in the delivery of capital works, operation and maintenance works and deliver on its conservation strategy.

You will bring:

* Relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Sustainability, Governance, Business or a related discipline, and/or demonstrated substantial experience and technical capability in leading, applying and improving environmental management practices.
* Demonstrated knowledge and experience in monitoring and delivery of outcomes in cultural heritage, land, conservation, environmental management and drinking water quality.
* Proven ability to effectively lead and manage change in a complex, geographically dispersed business.
* Proficient keyboard skills and experience using Microsoft Office Suite and corporate business systems.
* Experience in successfully obtaining sustainable environment and conservation approvals, permits and licences.
* Understanding of sustainability principles applicable to local government asset activities.
* Availability to work outside normal hours and travel as required.
* Legally able to drive a motor vehicle in Queensland.
