About the Position
Newington College has a vacancy for a Maintenance Carpenter position that is suitable for a reliable individual to join our Property Team as soon as possible. This is a permanent full-time position located at the College's Senior Campus in Stanmore.
The Maintenance Carpenter reports to the Property Manager and the Leading Hand Maintenance Supervisor and provides quality maintenance of facilities and development for staff, students, parents, and the community on all Newington College sites.
The Maintenance team is a much-valued part of the Property Department, responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of all internal and external built structures in the School, ensuring all facilities are functional, in good working order, and kept to the highest possible standard. Pride and a sense of ownership in the buildings – ranging from heritage listed to brand new – and their surroundings is an overriding requirement.
Hours of Work
* 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. - Monday to Friday, with a 10-minute morning tea break and 30-minute lunch break
* Some occasional Saturday work may be required with prior notice.
About You
We have deliberately not provided set and narrow selection criteria. However, it would be expected that the successful candidate will possess:
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to liaise with staff.
* Trade Qualifications (Carpentry) or studying and/or relevant carpentry work experience.
* Ability to work as a team leader and assist in all areas.
* Ability to work independently, efficiently follow instructions and adhere to all safety directions.
* A ‘can do’ attitude with an initiative to complete tasks to a high standard.
* A Work Health & Safety (WHS) green card/white card.
* Be physically fit and able to handle manual tasks and heavy lifting.
* Be able to work indoors and outdoors.
* Hold a valid Working with Children check or be willing to obtain one upon commencement.
* Understand and adhere to the College’s Child Safeguarding policies and practices.
* Contribute to the continuous improvement of Child Safeguarding at Newington.
* Experience in maintenance of grounds or buildings and machinery.
* Proven conflict resolution skills and decision-making skills.
* Proven knowledge of WHS and a commitment to ethical practices.
* Basic computer skills.
* Have your own transport and hold a current NSW driver’s license (manual).
* Hold a current first aid certificate (or be willing to obtain one).
