We are on our path towards becoming the Commonwealths "Strategic Shipbuilder" in the West, aiming to be in contract for the Strategic Shipbuilding Agreement (SSA). The SSA will establish an overarching program which enables the design and build of vessels at the Henderson Shipyard. The objective of the SSA is to possess the capacity and capability to initially deliver Landing Craft Medium & Heavy for the Australian Army in supporting continuous naval shipbuilding in WA.
The SSA is about establishing the capability within the Henderson Precinct, and Western Australia, to continuously build vessels for the Commonwealth. It will be led by Austal, and will require the engagement of local industry, supply chain and workforce to be successful.

About the Opportunity The Financial Controller is a key position within the Finance team, 'delivering together'. You'll be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the SSA organisation, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining internal controls, and supporting strategic financial planning. This role plays a critical part in compliance and financial analysis to support business decision-making and contributes to the Budgeting and Forecasting processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Build and maintain strong relationships with Commonwealth stakeholders to ensure timely review, approval, and payment of claims and foster collaborative partnerships with key subcontractorsCollaborate with management to analyse and report on financial performance, including major contracts, business unit profitability and cash flowOversee accuracy and completeness of financial reportingPrepare and review financial commentary and variance analysisManage monthly reporting on WIP, debtors and creditorsReconcile monthly overhead rates across defence and related programsPrepare statutory financial statements and disclosures in accordance with A-IFRSManage month end reporting and review balance sheet reconciliations and journal entriesMaintain the SSA Financial Management Plan to document financial rules and processesSkills and Experience Finance, Accounting or other Business DegreeCA or CPA certificateExcellent analytical, organisation and communication skillsHigh attention to detailStrong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations and reporting standards10+ years experience in a variety of Finance functions with at least 3 years experience in a leadership roleDue to the Security Clearance required for this position, applicants must be an Australian Citizen and eligible to obtain and uphold a Baseline Security Clearance through the Australian Department of Defence.
