Job Description
QLS has a full time 12-month fixed-term contract opportunity for an Admissions Assistant to join the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board team.
The QLS provides secretariat support to the Legal Practitioners Admissions Board whose role, amongst other things, is to make recommendations to the Supreme Court in relation to the eligibility and suitability of applicants seeking admission.
In providing support to the Board, QLS staff provide administrative and legal assistance, including speaking in court on behalf of the Board.
The Admissions Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Secretary and team by reviewing and processing admission applications, ensuring smooth and efficient administrative operations.
In this role you will:
- Reviewing and processing admission applications, including pre-admission and mutual recognition, making sure all requirements are met and any issues are flagged.
- Supporting applicants through their academic studies, legal training, and admission process, including those applying under mutual recognition.
- Preparing documents for Board meetings and Supreme Court filings, including correspondence, agendas, and seniority lists.
- Responding to enquiries, keeping applicant records up to date, and communicating clearly via email and phone.
- Helping with general admin tasks like handling mail, preparing documents, organising meetings, updating data, and processing payments.
Ideally you will have the following:
- Qualifications in legal or business administration (or a related field), along with experience in a similar administrative role within a professional services workplace.
- A working knowledge of the Legal Profession Act 2007 (or the ability to quickly learn it) as it relates to admissions.
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management, and proofreading skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and high volumes of work.
- Confidence using modern office systems, including Microsoft Office and records management tools, with accurate typing skills (60+ wpm preferred).
