 
        
        Scotch College is seeking a hands-on and highly organised Food Technology Assistant, internally titled Food Design Technician, to provide practical and administrative support to our Food Technologies program. This permanent part-time role is integral to the smooth delivery of engaging food education.
Type: Permanent part-time working during term time only
Hours: 30 hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 8:00am – 4:00pm
About the Role
Working closely with our Design & Technology teachers, you will ensure that classes and events run seamlessly. From ordering and preparing ingredients to maintaining kitchen facilities and equipment, you will play a key role in creating a safe, efficient and inspiring learning environment. You will also support students during practical lessons, ensuring food safety and helping them build confidence in the kitchen.
Key responsibilities
- Lesson support: Assist teachers during practical sessions, monitor student safety and behaviour, and help with set-up, clean-up and demonstrations as required.
- Ingredient management: Order and purchase ingredients cost-effectively, portion and label food in advance, and prepare trays and equipment for classes and events.
- Kitchen maintenance: Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised kitchen by checking and rotating equipment, managing storage areas, and arranging repairs or industrial cleans.
- Food safety: Follow and monitor food hygiene and safety practices, maintain records such as MSDS, and ensure allergy protocols and first aid supplies are up to date.
- Administration & IT: Process purchase orders, update recipes and documentation, monitor fridge/freezer temperatures, and liaise with IT for room equipment needs.
You are a self-starter with excellent organisational and communication skills, comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. With a solid understanding of food safety and hygiene, you are physically capable of meeting the role’s demands and enjoy working in a busy, student-focused environment.

- Basic understanding of digital tools and technologies

- Experience working in a commercial or large-scale domestic kitchen
