Your New Role You will be joining the team as an Engineering Design Manager is responsible for leading and coordinating the engineering design function for mining and quarry facilities across greenfield and brownfield projects. This role ensures that all design solutions are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with operational, production, and maintenance requirements. The position manages multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants, providing technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle—from concept development through detailed design, construction support, and commissioning. Some of your core responsibilities will include: Design Leadership & Management Lead and manage the engineering design of mining and quarry infrastructure, including crushing, screening, materials handling, processing plants, conveyors, stockpiles, load-out facilities, and associated civil and structural works. Oversee multidisciplinary design teams (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, process, and controls). Establish and manage design standards, specifications, and procedures aligned with company and regulatory requirements. Project & Stakeholder Management Act as the primary technical interface between operations, project delivery teams, contractors, and external consultants. Manage design scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables across multiple projects. Provide technical input during project feasibility studies, capital planning, and option evaluations. Technical Assurance & Compliance Ensure all designs comply with relevant Australian Standards, statutory requirements, mining regulations, and site-specific safety systems. Lead design reviews, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, risk assessments, and constructability reviews. Ensure designs are practical, maintainable, and aligned with operational constraints and lifecycle costs. Construction & Commissioning Support Provide engineering support during construction, including design clarifications, technical queries, and value engineering initiatives. Support commissioning activities and handover to operations, ensuring documentation and as-built records are complete. Team Leadership & Development Lead, mentor, and develop internal engineers and designers. Manage external consultants and specialist engineers to ensure quality and consistency of outputs. Foster a strong safety culture and promote engineering best practice across the team. Job Requirements Essential Degree qualified in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Electrical, or related discipline). Proven experience in engineering design management within mining, quarrying, heavy industrial, or bulk materials handling environments. Strong understanding of mining and quarry plant design, materials handling systems, and fixed infrastructure. Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams and external consultants. Demonstrated knowledge of Australian Standards, mining regulations, and safety management systems. Strong stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills. Desirable Chartered Engineer (CPEng) or working toward chartership. Experience across both greenfield and brownfield mining or quarry projects. Exposure to capital works planning, asset lifecycle management, or operational engineering support. Experience working closely with site-based operations and maintenance teams.
