Working from our Wynyard, Tasmania Defence manufacturing facility, you'll apply precision blasting and coating techniques to large, fabricated steel structures built to Australian Defence requirements.

How This Role Will Elevate Your Career
As a Paint and Blast Operator - Defence Manufacturing, you'll gain hands-on experience in:
* Defence-grade surface preparation and coating systems
* APAS-compliant paint applications
* Working to strict quality, safety and documentation requirements
* Coating large-scale fabricated structures used in critical Defence programs
You'll be supported with structured training, mentoring and exposure to Defence manufacturing processes, giving you highly transferable skills that set you apart in the industry.
Key Responsibilities
* Inspect and assess surfaces for defects and contamination
* Prepare steel and other substrates using abrasive blasting techniques
* Apply APAS-approved paint systems to steel, aluminium and fibreglass components
* Maintain blasting and painting equipment for consistent, high-quality output
* Follow detailed work instructions, drawings and quality documentation
* Work efficiently without compromising safety or quality
About You
You're a trade-qualified or highly experienced painter/blaster who takes pride in producing quality work and wants more from your career.
You'll bring:
* Relevant trade qualification or equivalent industry experience
* Proven industrial, automotive or heavy-duty painting and blasting experience
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to high standards
* Ability to read and follow technical drawings and procedures
* Willingness to learn Defence-specific coating systems and standards
* A safety-first mindset and strong work ethic
* Clear communication skills and a team-focused approach
Previous Defence experience is not required - attitude, capability and a willingness to upskill are what matter most.
