About the Role
As a Primary Mental Health Nurse, you will provide direct clinical support to detainees with mental health needs, including complex presentations and risk management. You’ll work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to coordinate care, manage medications, develop recovery plans, and facilitate referrals and discharge planning.
Key Responsibilities:
* Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments and develop recovery-oriented care plans.
* Deliver therapeutic interventions and monitor physical health in conjunction with mental health treatment.
* Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated and coordinated service delivery.
* Maintain accurate documentation in electronic medical records and contribute to discharge planning.
* Participate in case conferences and liaise with stakeholders to support continuity of care.
* Promote a safe and culturally respectful environment for detainees.
* Contribute to service improvement initiatives and policy development.

The ideal candidate will be a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with unrestricted AHPRA registration and hold a postgraduate qualification in mental health at AQF Level 8 or higher. They will bring a minimum of five years’ clinical experience in a healthcare setting, with extensive expertise in mental health care, including crisis intervention and psychoeducation. Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork abilities are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems. A solid understanding of multidisciplinary care approaches and relevant legislation is also required.
