Overview
Edith Cowan University (ECU) Digital Services is responsible for delivering and evolving the digital platforms, data, and capabilities that enable teaching, research, and university operations. The team drives the strategy and roadmap for enterprise digital solutions, including core systems, analytics, data governance, integration, and emerging technologies such as AI. Working with business areas across the University, Digital Services focuses on building secure, reliable, and scalable platforms that improve staff productivity, enable data-driven decision-making, and support innovation.
Salary and Terms
* $136,958 to $143,228 PA (HEW 9) PRO-RATA PLUS 17%
* Ongoing, Permanent Role, Joondalup Campus with Work from Home options

About the Opportunity
You will join a team of skilled digital and data professionals within Digital Services – Data Governance and Analytics, working collaboratively with stakeholders across the University to deliver trusted, enterprise-wide AI capabilities. As an AI lead you will be responsible for:
* Establish enterprise AI principles, standards, and guardrails in collaboration with University stakeholders.
* Lead AI governance, including ethical use, risk assessment, and assurance of AI solutions.
* Design and deliver AI solutions aligned to business priorities, enterprise architecture, and trusted data.
* Manage the AI innovation pipeline—from ideation and pilots to production—driving measurable value.
* Conduct due diligence on AI platforms and vendors to ensure security, privacy, and compliance.
* Enable responsible AI adoption by building guidance, communities of practice, and organisational capability.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
* Proven experience leading AI or digital innovation initiatives at an Enterprise level.
* Strong understanding of generative AI technologies and their applications in complex environments; preferably higher education.
* Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with variety of stakeholders in a complex environment.
* Experience in development, support and application of AI / Data capabilities.
* Excellent communication, facilitation, and change management skills.
* Familiarity with policy development, data governance, and ethical AI frameworks
