We're looking for someone who understands small animals - rabbits, guinea pigs, rats and mice - to manage our new adoption centre on the Central Coast of NSW, which is in its pilot stage until May 2027.

The role is offered on a fixed term, 12-month contract, based on a 38-hour week over five days including one day on weekend.

Salary: $95,000 + superannuation

We are looking for someone with management experience and/or capability who is also willing to provide hands-on care for small animals in a rehoming/adoption centre setting.

This role will manage volunteer workers who provide varying levels of support to the operation of the centre, and will report to the General Manager who will manage the centre two days’ per week.

The Operations Manager will provide monthly reports to the Board of Directors and attend Board meetings when required.

This role is supported by fixed-term grant funding and is being offered for 12-months, with the possibility of extension at the conclusion of the pilot project.

Responsibilities include managing:
* operation of the small animal rehoming/adoption centre with resident rats, mice, guinea pigs and rabbits, including animal husbandry, housing, behaviour support and healthcare
* adherence to all operational management procedures and reviewing/updating where required
* data on operations including individual animal files, financial records, incident logs etc.
* ordering supplies, equipment and food
* external contractors, suppliers and consultants
* volunteer workers onsite including inductions/training, direction and supervision
* site visits from members of the public and potential adopters and foster carers.

The Operations Manager will be expected to provide support to the General Manager with activities such as events, training sessions, adoptions, transport, procedural matters, presentations and other tasks.

No formal tertiary qualifications is required but preference will be given to those with qualifications and/or experience in:

* operations or project management especially not-for-profit
* animal facilities management - research sector, not-for-profit, council or shelters/sanctuaries
* small animal veterinary practice
* animal daycare or boarding services
* animal training and behaviour support.

The Operations Manager must:

* be vaccinated for tetanus
* have a current drivers licence and registered/insured vehicle
* have current first aid training (within the last 12 months) from a reputable training organisation
* preferably not have allergies to rodents or rabbits.

The new adoption centre is conveniently located a few minutes walk from Wyong Train Station, a main stop on services from Sydney, and less than a 60-minute drive from Sydney (Hornsby).
