Overview
The School of Medical Sciences at the University of Sydney is recognised as a leading centre for medical science education.
The 12-month Biostatistician position involves applying statistical principles to molecular biology, biological experiments, and human studies, with both sparse and large datasets.
While the primary focus is applied statistics, there are opportunities to engage in scientific research as part of the role.
Responsibilities
design and apply statistical principles and techniques for data collection
organise and interpret quantitative data
utilise statistical methodologies to produce comprehensive reports and analyses
develop computationally efficient and reproducible statistical analyses
create high-quality data visualisations
coordinate projects involving researchers and professionals from diverse educational backgrounds
Qualifications
strong background in statistics and mathematics as applied to medicine and biology; the ideal candidate holds a doctoral degree in a quantitative discipline (e.g., Applied Mathematics, Applied Statistics, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, etc.)
experience with data analysis in biological or clinical contexts
proficient in programming languages, specifically Python and R, with additional experience in C++ being preferable
experience in Bash scripting
excellent problem-solving skills and a keen attention to detail
maintain a positive attitude toward collaboration and self-directed learning
Benefits
Base Salary from $112,628 to $122,702 + 17% superannuation
Full-time, fixed-term contract for 12 months
