Head of HPE Department Overview
The Head of HPE provides strategic leadership and vision for the HPE department, ensuring high-quality teaching, innovative learning and strong student outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide instructional leadership, performance feedback, mentoring and professional development for staff to enhance their skills and expertise.
2. Build a collaborative team culture aligned with the College's vision and strategic plan by promoting open communication and fostering a positive work environment.
3. Manage departmental resources, facilities and budget effectively, ensuring safe and effective learning environments that meet the needs of students and staff.
4. Support beginning teachers in developing their classroom practices as they transition towards full QCT registration through coaching and mentoring.
5. E nsure that proper planning for teaching has been completed across the department, including Year Level and Unit planning documents that meet College expectations and are of high quality.
6. Engage with relevant QCAA processes such as Endorsement & Confirmation pertaining to Senior Subjects, ensuring deadlines are met and advice is followed up and implemented.
7. Oversee the assessment process across HPE, including quality control of task sheets, scaffolding documents, appropriate draft and due dates, revision sheets, constructive feedback on drafts and timely release of assessment results and feedback for improvement.
8. Stay abreast of curriculum developments and subject area expertise to provide guidance to supervisors on ongoing curriculum revision.
9. Conduct regular department meetings to discuss operational and curriculum matters, including assessment procedures, homework policy, monitoring of student work and initiate forward planning.
10. Promote teamwork within the department and build a positive collaborative team culture that encourages innovation, creativity and problem-solving in HPE.
11. Implement curriculum and assessment, and perform administrative duties related to a specific subject area, ensuring teachers are aware of PD opportunities, QCAA briefs and resources.
12. Promote curiosity, innovation and problem-solving in HPE, helping students develop resilience and confidence in their academic pursuits.
