About You :
Tertiary qualifBachelor of Occupational Therapy (or equivalent)
AHPRA registration and OTA membership
OT Driver Assessor qualificatiication in Administration or similar
Position Summary :
The Occupational Therapist – Driving Assessor is responsible for delivering high-quality, evidence-based driving and vehicle access assessments, rehabilitation programs and recommendations for people with complex medical, neurological, physical and psychosocial conditions.
This role works collaboratively with clients, families, driving instructors, vehicle modifiers and stakeholders to support safe, fair and client-centered outcomes, while upholding Driving Well's clinical, ethical and professional standards.
Key Requirements :
Essential
Minimum 2–5 years' experience in adult physical / neurological practice
Strong assessment, clinical reasoning and reporting skills
Experience with standardised assessments and assistive technology
Excellent written and verbal communication
Ability to work autonomously in a mobile role
Own laptop and ability to work remotely
Desirable
Experience with vehicle modifications and complex assistive technology
Experience working with NDIS, WorkCover and insurance schemes
Community-based or mobile service delivery experience
Job Responsibility :
Clinical Assessment & Intervention
Complete comprehensive occupational therapy driving assessments, including on-road and off-road components
Assess drivers and passengers requiring vehicle modifications
Prescribe evidence-based vehicle modifications in accordance with Australian Standards and Design Rules
Develop driving rehabilitation and learning programs in collaboration with specialised driving instructors
Complete reassessments, reviews and follow-up interventions as required
Clinical Reasoning, Reporting & Documentation
Produce high-quality, timely and defensible clinical reports and recommendations
Maintain accurate clinical records in Nookal and associated systems
Ensure documentation meets legislative, funding body and professional standards
Apply sound clinical judgement in complex and high-risk decision-making
Safety, Risk & Compliance
Prioritise client, public and practitioner safety in all assessments and recommendations
Comply with medical conditions reporting requirements and road safety legislation
Identify and elevate risks appropriately
Adhere to Driving Well policies, procedures and WHS requirements
Stakeholder & Partnership Engagement
Build strong professional relationships with:
* Clients and families
* Driving instructors
* Vehicle modifiers
* Medical and allied health referrers
* Funding bodies and regulators
Represent Driving Well Occupational Therapy professionally and ethically at all times
Professional Practice & Development
Maintain current AHPRA registration and OTA membership
Participate in clinical supervision, mentoring and peer review
Engage in internal and external professional development
Contribute to team learning, knowledge sharing and service improvement
