The team
The Enterprise Services Group provides a range of support, advice and analysis services across ASIC and includes Finance, Procurement, Property and Contracts, Performance Reporting and Planning, and the ERP Program.
The Statutory Reporting team is responsible for ASIC's external and statutory reporting requirements, including preparation of financial statements, management of audit processes, and ensuring ASIC's compliance with the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act).
The role
As a Financial Accountant, you will be required to:
* Prepare accurate year‐end financial statements, manage the year‐end audit process and contribute to ASIC's Annual Report financial disclosures
* Assist with external reporting obligations, including Portfolio Budget Statements and monthly reporting to the Department of Finance and Treasury
* Contribute to the timely and accurate completion of statutory and external reporting requirements in line with mandated deadlines
* Provide technical accounting advice on complex and emerging issues, including interpretation of accounting standards and policies
* Prepare and review month‐end journals and balance sheet reconciliations in ASIC's financial management information system
* Assist in managing actuarial valuations as required
* Contribute to the development and implementation of finance policies, procedures, governance frameworks and education programs
* Drive continuous improvement in statutory reporting processes and controls
* Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including other government agencies and professional bodies
* Provide coaching and guidance to team members as required
* Work professionally, positively and cooperatively across ASIC, modelling the values of Accountability, Professionalism and Teamwork
As an EL1, you are accountable for delivering business outcomes, maintaining personal effectiveness, contributing to team capability and recommending improvements to optimise long‐term performance.
About You
* A qualification in Business, Commerce or Finance, with CPA or CA accreditation
* Demonstrated experience preparing accurate statutory financial reports, ideally within a complex organisation
* Strong technical accounting skills with the ability to interpret and apply accounting standards to complex matters
* Experience providing high‐quality financial advice and analysis to senior executives
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to diverse audiences
* Proven stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
* The ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast‐paced environment
Highly Desirable Experience Includes
* Experience applying and interpreting the PGPA Act
* Experience working within the Australian Government or public sector
* Strong knowledge and practical experience applying Australian Accounting Standards in a statutory reporting environment
