About the role

As an intern at DTF or the ESC, you will be matched with a team in one of the above areas for 12 weeks between 1 December 2025 and 20 February 2026 (start and end dates can be negotiated).

Economics & Public Policy interns will report to a Senior Economist or Senior Policy Analyst. Accounting & Finance interns will report to a Principal Analyst or Senior Analyst. See the Position Description for more details.

* Develop your professional skills and expand your network through a tailored program of training and mentoring sessions; and
* Have fun and learn with a cohort of like-minded interns that want to contribute to Victoria's economic development.

If eligible, interns who successfully complete the internship program are strongly encouraged to apply for the Victorian Government Graduate Program. The Victorian Government Graduate Program offers ongoing positions across the VPS.

Insights from past interns

“ The DTF internship program far exceeded my expectations. Collaborating with experienced professionals to generate positive outcomes for Victorians, as opposed to just dollars on a financial statement, is a rewarding venture difficult to replicate elsewhere.

A highlight of DTF is the magnificent workplace culture. I was welcomed with open arms and made to feel valued and included every step of the way, using my existing knowledge and building new skills.

Furthermore, working with other interns on a group project that evaluated how we could improve our education system served as an amazing opportunity to become an expert in a field, all whilst creating lasting friendships with my peers.

I highly recommend the DTF internship program to aspiring economists seeking a rewarding and fulfilling professional experience with tangible, real-world impacts. ”

Robert, 2022 Economics Intern

“The DTF internship program was my first internship experience and it was definitely worthwhile. Being able to contribute to the Budget and other funding processes has been a very rewarding and unique experience.

My team and buddies have supported me the whole way and everyone is always open to teach and help you learn, which is something I really love about the people here. The friendships I've made through this program are some which I hope to keep for a long time.

I have been given various opportunities to develop my professional skills, especially my analytical and critical thinking, and I would encourage everyone to apply for the program.”

Joanna, 2023 Accounting and Finance Intern
