An exciting opportunity exists to join the Curriculum Division in the Languages Unit for a fixed term full-time position until 2 April 2027.
* Salary: $134,593 - $180,115 (Plus Superannuation of 11.5%)

Role purpose
The Languages Unit Manager provides high level expertise and professional leadership within the Curriculum Division and leads a small and highly expert team of Languages Program Managers. This role includes but is not limited to:
* Human resource management, including talent optimisation and retention, leading employees so they are productive, successful and fulfilled, and contributing to a positive workplace culture within the Languages Unit and broader Curriculum Division
* Liaising within and between divisions across the VCAA and DE to optimise workflow in line with the strategic plans of the VCAA as it relates to languages curriculum and assessment
* Actively embracing the VPS values, particularly integrity and leadership, to enhance organisational cohesion within the Languages Unit and the broader VCAA
* Liaising with jurisdictions nationally and external stakeholders to contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of Languages curriculum within Victoria
* Representing the VCAA in the ongoing work of the national Collaborative Curriculum and Assessment Framework for Languages (CCAFL) Project
* Managing budget and human resources associated with the Languages Unit
* Leading and contributing to the management of special projects within the Languages Unit
* Completing an allocated portion of the broader work assigned to the Languages Unit, in negotiation with the team.
The work of the Languages Unit includes but is not limited to:
* Contributing curriculum expertise to the development of VCE Languages examinations and external assessment processes for Languages
* Providing curriculum expertise and guidance in the review, development and implementation of curriculum and assessment for Languages from Foundation level to VCE.
* Project management and development of resources to support familiarisation of VCE Languages studies and the Victorian Curriculum F-10 for Languages
* Auditing school-assessed coursework for VCE Languages studies.
* Reviewing applications from providers seeking authorisation to deliver VCE Languages.
* Providing high-level support to stakeholders, including the development of resources and professional learning to support sectors and external stakeholders in implementing curriculum and assessment in Victoria for Languages from Foundation level to VCE.
About the unit
The Languages Unit is located within the Curriculum Managers' Unit, Curriculum Division, reporting to the Director of Curriculum/Executive Director of Curriculum.
As a global leader in education, the VCAA supports the teaching of over 50 languages in Victorian schools and offers 47 languages at VCE level with high-quality curriculum and assessment. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to Languages education in Victoria across all school sectors.
Attributes
The successful candidate will be an excellent people leader, with strong stakeholder engagement capabilities and extensive program and project management skills. They will have in-depth understanding of the Languages curriculum area from Early Years to Year 12 levels, curriculum-based assessment in Languages, and the complexities of Languages education in Victorian schools. In addition, they will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to advise and liaise with school communities and other interested groups on Languages curriculum and assessment matters.

Experience and qualifications
Essential: Relevant tertiary qualifications in Languages education.
