About the Role
The Lead Maintenance Engineer/Scientist/Specialist plays a pivotal role – ensuring Sydney Water meets its obligations by delivering optimal cost, risk and performance outcomes across the full asset lifecycle – from creation through maintenance to renewal. The Maintenance Reliability and Condition Assessment team is integral to Sydney Water's Operational Service Planning process and wider asset value stream. Within this context, the Lead Maintenance Engineer/Scientist/Specialist drives high‐quality outcomes.
What You Will Be Doing
* Lead asset inputs into the integrated TOTEX Investment and Works Plan, identifying assets of concern and progressing them for renewal or replacement planning.
* Develop, review and govern asset maintenance and renewal strategies, ensuring alignment with Strategic Asset Management standards and performance expectations.
* Provide oversight of condition assessment activities, including specialist assessments, and monitor asset risks to inform prioritisation and investment decisions.
* Act as a visible, site‐connected leader within the ROMP teams, coordinating and facilitating ROMP forums to surface operational risks, performance issues and mitigation actions.
* Ensure assets are accurately identified, managed and risk‐assessed in Maximo (and HIDRA), including criticality, spares and risk mitigation assessments.
* Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and complex problem‐solving for critical, high‐cost or recurring asset failures, supporting operational licence compliance.
About You
In addition to a tertiary qualification in Engineering or another relevant discipline, and a full current driver's licence, we are ideally looking for:
* Some experience in water supply, water treatment networks or stormwater would be beneficial, or experience in another process focused industry.
* Experience with Maximo or a similar CMMS system highly regarded.
* Knowledge of RCA (root cause analysis) and AMS (asset management systems).
* Demonstrated professional experience in Plant Operations or asset management.
* Well developed internal and external stakeholder management abilities.
* Excellent communication and report writing skills.
* Ability to problem solve engineering and operational issues.
