About the Role

We are seeking a Tug Engineer to join our Newcastle towage team on an initial 50% permanent part‐time, unrostered basis. The role requires a minimum of 91 working days per year and may demand short‐notice availability for those living within two hours of the port or willing to relocate.

How You'll Make a Difference

* Maintain all onboard machinery, including engine and deck equipment
* Carry out maintenance and repair of marine systems and equipment
* Support safe and effective winch operation during towage jobs
* Identify and report defects promptly to keep operations on track
* Prepare maintenance records and operational reports as required
* Ensure compliance with safety procedures, regulations, and company policies
* Assist on deck when needed to support the crew and vessel operations
* Participate in drills, training, and skills development

What You'll Bring

* Minimum Engineer Class 3 Near Coastal Certificate of Competency or equivalent
* A valid AMSA Medical that matches your Certificate of Competency
* First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificates
* Solid knowledge of marine engines, propulsion systems, and auxiliary equipment
* Experience working in towage or tug operations is an advantage
* Strong focus on safety and following procedures
* Ability to stay calm, think clearly, and adapt when conditions change
* Willingness to embrace technology and support sustainable ways of working
* Right to live and work in Australia

Compensation

Fortnightly salary based on a pro‐rated structure; the full‐time equivalent salary for a Tug Engineer in Newcastle is $247,725.95 per annum. The role is 50% permanent part‐time on an unrostered basis.
