GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 180 staff, GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health, Social Services, Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.
GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing, with culture at the heart of everything we do.
Position Purpose
The Events & Engagement Officer is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and safe delivery of GEGAC events that promote cultural identity, strengthen community connection, and enhance organisational visibility. This role ensures events are inclusive, professionally managed, and aligned with GEGAC's cultural, strategic, and operational values.
Reporting to the Communications Coordinator, the Events & Engagement Officer collaborates with internal teams, Elders, community members, and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality, culturally respectful, and safe events across the organisation.
Key Selection Criteria
* Demonstrated experience planning, coordinating, and delivering public or community events at scale.
* Understanding of safety compliance, risk mitigation, and emergency planning for events.
* Proven ability to engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in culturally respectful and inclusive ways.
* Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with attention to detail in event documentation.
* Strong time management, multi-tasking, and project delivery skills.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant platforms (eg. Canva, Eventbrite, Trello, or similar)
Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).
* Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander applicants are strongly encouraged to apply. DESIRABLE
* Previous experience in a health, education, or Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) context DESIRABLE
* Qualifications in Event Management, Communications, Community Development, or a relevant field DESIRABLE
* Driver licence. ESSENTIAL
* A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL
* A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE
* Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
