Fixed Term Consultant T&O – Major Trauma with an interest in Knee

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics - Major Trauma with an interest in Knee. The appointed candidate is expected to perform all aspects of orthopaedic trauma with a particular emphasis on knee trauma. The role will cover trauma operating with fracture clinics (including virtual), ward rounds, elective operating and other supporting duties within the department. Elective surgery is undertaken at the SOTC, a GIRFT accredited HVLC Hub. The appointee will support the polytrauma and acute knee service and is committed to improving clinical care, participating in incident reporting, risk management, and Clinical Unit Governance Meetings held every other month. Attendance to such meetings is obligatory outside mitigating circumstances.
Main duties of the job
* Undertake administrative duties associated with patient care.
* Work and support all members of the clinical team in theatres, clinics and wards.
* Day‐to‐day management of patients, liaison with trauma nurse practitioners and participation in meetings.
* Undertake and remain up‐to‐date with mandatory training.
* Observe the rules and policies together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.
* Maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.
The on‐call responsibility for this post will include participation in a polytrauma rota – 1 in 16 weekdays and 1 in 12 weekends (3% Category A).

Person Specification
Experience / Qualifications
* FRCSOrth or appropriate specialist qualification or its recognised equivalent.
* Full and specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the GMC, or be eligible for registration within six months of interview. If trained in the UK, you must hold a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Orthopaedics or be within six months of receiving it by interview date. If trained outside the UK, provide evidence that your qualifications are equivalent to the UK CCT (equivalence confirmed by GMC by date of AAC).
* Higher Degree – BSc, MSc, MD.
Clinical Skills and Experience
* Minimum of 6 months post‐CCT fellowship experience in major trauma.
* Minimum of 6 months post‐CCT knee surgery experience.
* Maximum of 12 months post‐CCT fellowship experience in major trauma.
* Maximum of 12 months post‐CCT knee surgery.
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience both within and outside specialty.
Organisation and Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‐professional teams.
* Understanding of NHS/Clinical governance/resource constraints.
* Evidence of managerial skills: achievements/courses attended.
