We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Support Officer to join our Accounting Services team. This is an opportunity to grow your skills while contributing to the financial operations that support your local community.
The Role:
As an Accounting Support Officer, you'll work alongside experienced finance professionals, learning the foundations of local government accounting. Your day-to-day work will include assisting with bank reconciliations, supporting month-end and year-end processes, and helping prepare annual financial statements and returns.
You'll contribute to budget variance reporting and play a part in shaping the annual budget, gaining hands-on experience across a broad range of accounting functions. Working alongside experienced finance professionals, you'll build your skills in a collaborative environment where accuracy, learning and teamwork are valued.
Key Responsibility
* Support and assist the Accounting Services team with end of month and end of year processes, annual financial statements and associated returns.
* Responsible for the daily reconciliation of bank statements and other associated reconciliations and tasks.
* Provide support for monthly budget variance reporting and establishing the annual budget under direction
* Assist in the preparation of Council's various tax returns, including but not limited to FBT and other tax compliance in general.
* Prepare the monthly BAS Return.
Skill & Competencies:
* Currently undertaking tertiary studies in Accounting or Commerce or experience in bookkeeping
* Sound knowledge of accounting.
* High level of numeracy and accuracy relating to financial records.
* Ability to perform key responsibilities under close supervision.
* Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with customers both internal and external to the organisation.
