ABOUT THE ROLE
A Federal Government department is seeking an experienced Senior Unified Communications Engineer to join its Telecommunications and Data Centre Support team within a large ICT infrastructure environment.
You will work as part of a mixed APS and contractor team delivering and supporting enterprise-grade telecommunications, voice, video, and collaboration platforms across a complex and highly secure environment. The role supports both operational services and project delivery, contributing to the design, implementation, and ongoing optimisation of Unified Communications (UC) capabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
* Identify and document business, functional, and technical requirements for UC hardware, systems, workflows, and operating environments
* Act as the subject matter expert for the design and implementation of Unified Communications solutions, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency
* Develop and maintain UC roadmaps in collaboration with architecture, design, and cybersecurity stakeholders
* Support the design and deployment of communication, collaboration, and networking systems
* Maintain and support UC platforms including telephony, collaboration tools, messaging systems, softphones, mobile devices, PBX, and voice/video conferencing environments
* Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training materials for system administration and end-user use
* Research emerging technologies, standards, and products to inform procurement and continuous improvement
* Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure architectural consistency and alignment across projects
* Provide technical support for UC system upgrades, troubleshooting complex infrastructure and software issues
* Contribute to operational strategies, best practices, and service improvements to enhance performance and reliability
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential:
* Minimum 10 years' experience designing, deploying, and managing Unified Communications systems
* Strong stakeholder engagement and client service capabilities
* Demonstrated ability to produce detailed technical designs and implementation documentation
* Highly developed diagnostic and problem-solving skills
* Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary technical teams
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
* Broad understanding of whole-of-government ICT direction and emerging technologies
* Hands-on experience with day-to-day UC operations including voice, video, and VoIP environments
* Experience contributing to ICT security accreditation processes
* Strong understanding of ASD Essential Eight
* Familiarity with current and emerging networking and collaboration technologies
ELIGIBILITY
* Australian citizenship is required
* Must hold minimum NV1 clearance at time of application
