Due to the continued success of our Australian operations, our Water business is seeking an experienced Senior Planning Engineer to join our WATER INFRASTRUCTURE Asset Management and Planning team. We are interested in speaking with anyone from Senior to Associate level.
About The Team
The WSP Australia Water Asset Management and Planning (AMP) team is a nationally recognized group specializing in strategic, master, and detailed planning for water and sewer networks, pumping stations, conveyance, and related infrastructure. With decades of local and global experience, the team helps utilities across Australia—including Urban Utilities, TasWater, Melbourne Water, and SA Water—understand the health of their assets and forecast renewals with certainty to extend infrastructure lifespan and improve efficiency.
The AMP team plays a critical role in shaping sustainable water management solutions, focusing on optimizing water use, reducing waste, and enhancing resilience to meet growing infrastructure demands, especially in regions like Queensland ahead of major events such as the 2032 Brisbane Olympics. WSP’s AMP professionals work on high-impact projects that support long-term environmental, social, and economic sustainability, while fostering innovation, collaboration, and career growth within a flexible and inclusive work environment.
About The Role
As a Senior Planning Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and undertaking the technical assessment of water supply and sewerage networks to address drivers such as growth, compliance, network performance improvement, and renewals by undertaking strategic and master planning, options assessments, feasibility investigations, and detailed planning projects, as well as the preparation of business cases. You will also have exposure to and support our asset management and strategy development functions and will be working with key clients across Australia.
Your Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
* Lead and undertake key technical tasks across a broad range of high-profile water infrastructure projects.
* Lead/Assist in client and stakeholder workshops
* Prepare well-written technical reports on medium to large projects.
* Assist in preparing proposals on medium to large projects.
* Supervise and coordinate project team members to achieve project outcomes and meet client objectives and expectations
* Participate in industry associations.
* Comply with all roles specific SHEQ obligations.
About You
Joining our team, you will have experience leading the delivery of efficient and effective engineering consultancy services to our public and private sector clients, including the preparation of client-focused proposals. You will be proficient in:
* Providing technical expertise across a broad range of projects.
* At least 5 years experience in Water Infrastructure Planning
* Planning of water supply and sewerage networks and an understanding of their operation
* Preparing and delivering effective and engaging presentations and workshops
* Leading project scoping or proposal development
* Understanding and implementation of hydraulic principles, including some experience in hydraulic modelling
* Analytics techniques and use of decision support methodologies such as MCA, risk assessments, opportunities and constraints, costs and benefits etc
* The use of GIS and Excel to interrogate and assess data
* Preparation of reports and maps
* Recognized Bachelor’s Degree (Engineering) or Equivalent.
